Unplanned Pregnancy

& Adoption

Why Consider Adoption?

When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, adoption is a possible option.  We practice in this area of law because we love to see firsthand how a mother can take a situation that she did not necessarily plan for and turn it into a gift of love to adoptive parents and the child.

Under Indiana law, a mother who is considering an adoption plan for her child is able to receive reimbursement for medical expenses and certain amounts to assist with her living expenses while pregnant and for up to six weeks after birth.  An expectant mother is also allowed to be reimbursed for reasonable counseling costs expenses, if she desires.

Expectant Mothers Have a Say

Making an adoption plan does not mean you do not have a voice.  Your wishes for the child are heard and a match is made based on what is most important to you.  We work with families that are pre-screened, educated on adoption, have valid home studies and are excited to adopt.  In every conversation, we discuss the types of parents that you would like to adopt your child.

  • Are religious or spiritual beliefs important to you?
  • Is the opportunity to access a good education of more interest?

We have been able to find great families for birth mothers who want adoptive parents who practice a certain religion, have a certain occupation, live in a particular geographic region, have no other children or have multiple children already. You can also choose whether you would like to have an “open” adoption or “closed” adoption.

Making a Plan for Your Child

If you are pregnant and considering adoption, you probably have questions. How do I pick the perfect family for my child? Can it be an “Open” Adoption? What resources are available? How does the family selection process work? Where can you turn for help ensuring the best possible future for your child?
